With which one of the network laws do you most agree? Why?
I law I most agree with is the Reed's Law. Indeed, a member is linked to to a network as whole. But also to many significant subsets. These subsets add value to the individual and to the network itself. Including subsets in the calculation of the value of the network, the value increases more rapidly than if we were only considering the nodes.
This law is particularly efficient to networks where individuals, communities and groups are considered. It permits us to realize how the Web 2.0 has a social dynamic. For example, Facebook can be considered part of the Reed's Law.
How you think people might get their information five years from now?
I think that 5 years from now, the way we get information will have totally changed. When I take a look at the history of technology and see the way it changes our access to information in such a short amount of time, it makes me believe that it will keep changing more and more quickly. As an example, 5 years ago, my access to information was way different. In order to get informed, I used to watch the news on TV and sometimes read some newspapers about a specific topic. My phone's (yes, at that time I did not have a smartphone) utility was only to call, text, sometimes play games when I was bored. But at that time I never used the internet with my phone to get informed, first because it was too expensive and second because it was not easy to access information website with these kind of phone. Today, I follow the news exclusively with my phone (internet, twitter, Facebook,..) and the internet. I do not watch TV anymore except for some sport events. In 5 years, we will have new devices that will be way more quicker and efficient compared to the ones with have now. The time between us and info will be even shorter than today.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you concerning how we get information today. I hardly ever take the time to sit down and read a newspaper or watch a news cast. I always learn about news through social media or somewhere online. I believe that in time, any news that happens anywhere around the world, we will be able to learn about it almost instantly.
ReplyDeleteTechnology will definitely be changing and getting quicker. I agree with your ideas. We will have a easier time accessing everything we need at a touch of a button. Internet will only be growing and only become more user friendly.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy to me that we are beginning to get our information from social media. I agree that in 5 years we will most likely only obtain information from social media websites like Twitter or Facebook. It honestly scares me a little because social media seems like it's not as reliable as seeing a story in a printed newspaper but everything is biased in it's own way and it's still difficult to find out if sources are credible. What will be important to us in 5 years is what social media sites get us the information fastest and to the point.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% that most of our information/news that we learn comes from social media and the internet but not everyone is on the internet. Most of the time, if I see something trending on Twitter, I think it is important to the world, but I forget that not everyone has access to the internet. It is hard, but we should try to find more reliable ways to learn about the news of our country and the world. When something pop's up on our timelines, it could simply meant that it is trendy or popular to the very small demographic that actually uses social media.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you're saying about technology advances. I've only had a smartphone for a couple of years and I am bored with the technology. That's an issue. Technology HAS to keep stepping up or people will get bored with it and leave. MySpace for example, was super popular until Facebook offered a more sleek and user-friendly atmosphere and dominated social media. Twitter became even simpler than Facebook. And YikYak is simpler than Twitter. It seems the complicated advances in technology end up dumbing-down people by making us do less than before, but receive more than before from our technology.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone thus far. Smart phones are our life. I think that we will be able to do almost anything and receive information through our smart phones and its applications. I think news apps will be a huge thing in the future. Like the previous comment said, people love when things are convenient and easy for them. A smart phone is the perfect package where you can do almost anything. It doesn't get any easier than that.
ReplyDeleteDear Alex, I agree with you when you say that television is declining. Just like you, I do not watch TV anymore. I access information with some of my smartphone's apps: Twitter, Facebook. It is way more convenient than TV because you have the opportunity to choose what type of information you want to access. Indeed, on twitter you can follow whatever account you have some interest in.
